Finnsementti Oy is a Finnish cement manufacturer company that has been involved in building Finland for 110 years. Finnsementti produces a significant part of Finland's cement supply at its factories in Parainen and Lappeenranta. The company focuses on the use of domestic raw materials and renewable fuels in its production.
To improve its business efficiency, Finnsementti has implemented the mScales digital weighing service, which includes an automation system interface. Tamtron's total solution has helped Finnsementti improve weighing accuracy and efficiency and make its operations transparent.
"Weighing solutions are an essential part of our business, as we handle more than 60,000 weighing transactions per year. Our equipment was outdated, so we decided to upgrade it in collaboration with Tamtron. We implemented the mScales weighing service and at the same time integrated the weighing system into our various automation systems at all locations. The automated weighing service has improved the quality of work by reducing manual data storage and made information sharing transparent to different stakeholders," says Petri Teräväinen, Category Manager.
The automation system ensures reliable and efficient data transfer
The key objectives of the project were to simplify the weighing process for incoming and outgoing loads, improve data transfer efficiency, and ensure real-time data accuracy. According to Teräväinen, the challenges with the old scale systems were mainly related to new and evolving integration needs in data transfer, user management, data protection issues, and the availability and transparency of log data. Tamtron managed to solve these challenges by digitalizing the weighing service, integrating the trucks scales into the cloud, and developing a modern automation system interface to Finnsementti's existing automation systems.
"We started the project with a thorough assessment of the initial situation, after which Tamtron began to designing the overall solution. In this case, the saying was true; well planned is half done. mScales weighing service allows us to rely on the weighing data and the automation system interface ensures that the right product can only be loaded from the right loading point. And we don't have to tie up resources in loading and weighing loads.
The drivers themselves can manage the entire process, from weighing to loading and delivery documentation, flawlessly. This is made possible by the integration and interlocking of the various systems. Weighing data is automatically stored in the cloud, reducing manual work for drivers and improving data transfer. Best of all, real-time information is available to different stakeholders without delays," Petri explains.
Continuously evolving service adapts to changing customer needs
The complete solution offered by Tamtron also includes many other useful features, such as offline weighing, gate control and washbowl control. At Finnsementti, mScales has proven to be easy to use, but help is available if needed. Tamtron's team of experts engages in continuous product development, enabling the service to be tailored to future changing needs.
"We have been extremely satisfied with the digital weighing service and the automation system interface. We now manage the weighing process from start to finish on mobile, which has made everyday life easier, especially for drivers.
Thanks to the weighing system, we have managed to standardize operating models within the company and improve information flow between different stakeholders. Most importantly, errors have significantly decreased, and in the future, we will focus on further improving forecasting," confirms procurement project manager Samuli Stenman.
