What changes are needed to make my existing scale legally compliant with mScales?

You can update an existing weighing scale to work with mScales, but this depends on the scale’s current technical structure and legal control requirements. Some weighing systems may include legally required components, such as alibi memory, that are integrated into the original weighing software. When that software is removed, the scale is no longer legally compliant unless the required components are replaced with new hardware.

Requirements for a legally controlled scale

In weighing systems, legally required components may be embedded in dedicated hardware or legacy software. When updating to mScales, this software is removed from use, which means the scale must be equipped with compliant hardware components. Because these components support legal control, the update typically requires hardware modifications, such as installing a new indicator or alibi memory unit. These changes make the scale compliant again but also require a new initial verification.

Choosing the right time for the update

Since hardware modifications trigger a need for initial verification, the timing of the update is important. If customers can align the update with the scale’s scheduled verification, this reduces additional service visits, minimizes downtime, and helps avoid extra costs related to component replacements.

Preparing for the transition to mScales

Before the scale switches to mScales, all existing customer, order, and related business data can be transferred to the service. This ensures smooth continuity of operations with no loss of information. Required software integrations with external systems can also be built and tested before the new system is taken into production. Once these integrations have been verified, the transition to live use can proceed without interruptions.

The mScales Sales team can help determine the best approach for each customer and guide the process from planning to implementation.
